Q.
Why do I need to register to see what is on FamilyThread.com?
A.
We
have invested a great deal of time and expense to provide the information on
our site. In addition, there are many items on our site including
information which have been contributed by others who hold the copyright for
the data that we have obtained copyright permission to use.
Unfortunately, in today's world of high tech, there are some nasty people
out there who write programs to steal information from genealogy sites.
Many genealogists have found their photos and other items for sale on
popular auction sites on the internet.
Secondly, we require the login to protect the privacy of living
individuals.
We have been in the process of adding branches which will allow
people within their branch to see themselves as well as their close family
member’s information who are living individuals.
This will especially be a nice feature for children who will be able
to see in a graphical format how they are connected to many generations.
Q.
How can I save copies of photos, documents, etc. for my personal genealogy?
A.
We
encourage you to save photos, documents and other images from our
site. That is one of the reasons we have the site so that everyone can
share items and everyone has copies of old photos and historical
documents. All of our images (photos, documents, etc.) have thumbnails
(a smaller version of the image). Simply click on the thumbnail or on
the link next to the thumbnail to reveal the full-size image file.
Once the image has loaded on the web page, right click your mouse (a menu
will appear) and select "save picture as" and select the location
(your computer hard drive or CD, etc) where you would like to save it.
It's that easy! You then have the option to print them if you'd like
or in the case of photos if you don't want to print them on your printer,
you can send the digital photos to be developed by your favorite film
developer. Note: Please review our acceptable
use policy regarding images.
There are many different ways to view information in the
database. We recommend you play around and click on all the
icons and links once you are logged in. We think the feature you will enjoy
most, is the ancestral view. To see
the ancestral view, click on the
icon. This will bring up the ancestors of the person you
select displaying a box for each individual. If we have their
photo uploaded, a thumbnail photo will be viewable in the box.
To see an example how this will work, search on Allen Kraft and select the
next to Allen Benawa Kraft. If you follow his Benawa line, you will get an
idea what everyone will eventually look like. Also, for each box
displayed, you will see a blue down arrow at the bottom of each
box. Mouse over the arrow and it will display facts on the
screen for that individual.
